Every year I feel as though All-Star Saturday night gets weaker and weaker. This year was decent and the Barkley-Pavetta competition added some comic relief. Let me tell you what I found wrong with each event.
1. Shooting Stars - What was with the time clock. The time kept stopping after 1 minute and probably ended up giving the championship to the wrong team. On top of that this event isn't that exciting to watch. It was enjoyable to see Pippen hit the half court shot thinking he won it, only to find out his team was disqualified!
2. Skills Challenge - 3 top names in the NBA in this challenge where the biggest challenge is to throw a ball through a hoop. On top of all of this it seemed like noone had a will to win, I could have beat all 4 of them with their jogging down the court. There seemed to be no energy in this event.
3. Barkley-Pavetta Challenge - This was fun to watch but it is pretty bad to watch a 44 and 67 year old kiss, let alone it being 2 males. Was this the way they decided to fire at Tim Hardaway?
4. 3 Point Shoot Out - Not too much to complain about here. Pretty upsetting seeing Dirk get an 8 and not seeing Arenas take it.
5. Dunk Competition - My biggest complaint. WTF happened with the judging here. The best dunkers of all time judging the competition, it seemed as though they were just picking numbers without watching the dunk. Now I know since this is a Knicks fan page you are waiting to hear me defend Nate but he did not deserve to win this. His first dunk was nice but after that I was not very impressed and with him missing 5000000 dunks in a row, him finally making that off the backboard dunk wasn't too spectacular. While I think Gerald Green did good and deserved the championship, my main problem was with the scoring. I dont know how Green's last dunk gets a 50 while his first dunk didn't. Dwight Howard deserved a 100 (off the charts) for his dunk with the sticker and Nate's first dunk deserved at 50. The scoring was so horrible it ruined the competition. I am glad that a Knick has a rule named after him in the dunk competition though. Incase you do not know what it is, the Nate Robinson rule is you can attempt a dunk as many times as you want in 2 minutes but after that you only get 2 chances, which Nate had to use tonight.
I enjoy All-Star Saturday and will continue to look forward to it every year but I feel as though there needs to be a lot of improvements with the number one being more participants in the Dunk Competition. We need at least 6 or 8!
